The tenants in an apartment building find themselves beseiged by monsters, in this new Netflix horror freak out. That's about the entirety of it. As viewers, we don't know why things have gone haywire, but there's no help to be found. It's sure to go all over the place, but so far the show has introduced a suicidal high school student, living alone and suffering PTSD after his family is killed in a cr accident, a fiesty and rebellious ballerina and her medical student brainiac brother, and a dangerous, greasy, quiet man dressed in a thug's suit, who may or may not be a gangster.
Monsters in epsiode one were a bad ass demonic woman who I thought was a mere ghost at first, but as she terrorized the neighbors, she turned out to be more of a Deadite kind of beast, and a hydrocephalic looking vampire creature with a giant fanged tentacle that shot out of it's throat. SWEET HOME is looking to be a kind of Monster of the Week trip (this week's homages being to THE EVIL DEAD, NIGHT OF THE DEMONS, BLADE 2, and THE STRAIN, among others) against a backdrop of something like [REC], THE MIST, or DAWN OF THE DEAD.
I've never played the videogame, or seen the webtoon this show is based on, but I sure am digging the live action iteration on Netflix, which is super fun and gorey. This will definitely be part of my regular viewing.
- 10/10 excitement level for the next nine episodes I have left to watch!
