I went on THE HUNT (2020 - USA - Action/Horror/Satire) but didn't find much meat to eat

Greg Zobel's controversial, and delayed (due to political worry) THE HUNT finds a group of people dropped into the hills and woods, gagged, with no clue as to who each other is or where they are, find out very quickly they are on a private game reserve of a group of privileged elites, and are the prey.

The twist? These poor souls are all obviously right-wing leaning MAGA types, who have been selected by the entitled and spoiled left wing as victims in their latest game. As they are meticulously picked off in gory fashion, one of the hunted women proves to be much ore formidable than any of the stalkers had suspected. Soon, she is hunting them, and working her way to the top, one mega-bloody encounter at a time, to the leader, a mysterious woman holed up on the "Manor" of the grounds.

It's pretty clear director Zobel is not a right-wing nutjob, but at the same time the film, especially now, plays like that stupid comment "There are good people on both sides", lampooning the right to a degree, and skewering the left with some serious barbs regarding things like social justice, anti-racism, and sexism. The thing is, it never commits to anything, and while that may be the point, for me it left THE HUNT a bit flaccid. It's also a Blumhouse film, and their house-style in my opinion is tired and played. I watched this mainly for Emma Roberts (SCREAM QUEENS, AMERICAN HORROR STORY, THE BLACKCOAT'S DAUGHTER) whose exit in the film is one of the high points as far as "Oh SHit!" moments go, and Bettie Gilpin (GLOW, AMERICAN GODS, STUBER) who gets a chance to be a bad ass here.

Entertaining enough for a disposable watch, but loses a full number rank from me for sitting on the fence, and even levelling some seriously stupid shit concerning what some may call "the Left". Within months, again due in large part to the actions of that idiot Donald Trump (I write this on January 7, 2020...the day after his goons tried to destroy Democracy by storming the Capitol), THE HUNT has become an anachronism though, and I see it's only value in the future being a kind of time capsule, which will float contextually on the historically tragic last few weeks.

Other than that? MEH.
